Around Lake Hopfensee
Hopfensee is where the fairytale castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein are located. It was home to the fairytale king Ludwig II during his childhood, who retreated back to the solitude of the mountains as an adult to distance himself from the harsh reality of state business. 12 km long and 3 km wide Lake Forggen is the largest lake in the Allgäu and the fifth largest lake in Bavaria. During the summer months from June 1st to October 15th, the Forggen lake is also popular for sea shipping.
Enjoy, cure, promenade
In Hopfen am See, you will enjoy a calmer and more relaxed flair. Stylish villas and romantic country houses characterize the sunny southern ambience and make this district a holiday destination full of cozy elegance.
The Kneipp and climatic health resort is also called “Riviera des Allgäus”. The main reason for this is the promenade along the shores of Lake Hopfen, where you can stroll in a well-kept manner - always with a fantastic view of the entire mountain world of Königswinkel. Here, spa and health stays become a truly luxury experience.
Lake Hopfen is one of the warmest lakes in Bavaria because it is particularly shallow. Around the outdoor pool there’s also a children's playground and mini golf for extra-long bathing seasons. Surfing (surf school), sailing, fishing and walking on the extra course around the lake as well as a boat and bicycle rental complete the activity offer.
Promenaders praise the hiking trails around Lake Hopfen in all seasons.
And in winter, the glassy ice-covered surface is perfect for ice skating and Bavarian curling, while the healthy winter air can be enjoyed on groomed cross-country ski runs and cleared hiking trails. And Alpine skiers will find lifts in the immediate vicinity.
